The Last Dance of Caitlyn Murphy by Kristine Croto

The Last Dance of Caitlyn Murphy is a story of a girl who is in the process of turning into a fantasy creature. It is an internal struggle that become external one evening as Caitlyn is running. She is struggling and meets a man who seems to be her savior, however, he is not all that he seems to be. There is another man, who wants to be a savior but Caitlyn isn't sure that she is interested.

Caitlyn's only family is her mother, but they essentially have no relationship. Caitlyn's father and younger sister were killed in an accident many years before and Caitlyn and her mother's relationship essentially dissolved. Caitlyn tries to deal with her pain by going to clubs and dancing and meeting up with random guys.

Caitlyn's friend Shannon tells Caitlyn that her mother is in crisis so Caitlyn goes to try to help her mom, but finds her mom's life in shambles. Caitlyn is unsure of how to help but tries, and finds that her mom keeps her life together on the surface but is drinking and not paying the bills. Her mom did receive a settlement from the life insurance policy on Caitlyn's father but has squandered it away.

The resolution of the book comes with an interesting twist. Caitlyn has learned to manage her creature and has learned to let go. Overall, I give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars.
